    Watch the video titled “Staking for Excavation” and answer the questions provided below. Please note that your answers must be submitted as comments below this post and your views may be similar to other students but it should not be expressed using the same words or phrases.

    1. What are the objectives of the above video?

    2. Whose duty is it to stake for the proposed building foundation?

    3. Outline the various tools used during the staking or setting out process of the proposed building.

    4. Why was an offset of 3 feet adopted from the existing building?

    5. Give reasons why the string was fastened around the stake instead of using nails to fix the string at the centre of the stake.

    1. Step the adopt before starting your
    setting out job
    – obtain the achitect or building plans
    – get necessary material ready like
    :nails,tapes or ropes,hammer e.t.c
    – firstly,take note of the four corners
    where we have the propose columns/pillars
    Oras case maybe
    – Establish the four corners related to the
    diamention of the building floor plan by
    pegging it
    – after establishing the four corner insert
    nails at the center top of each peg and
    then run rope round the 4 page
    – taking just one side measure the setback
    from back of fence to the end of the
    building lines in that particular angles
    then come to the front and measure the
    setback also as given on your Drawing
    plans
    – after this go back to the rear or you may
    use the front as a point mark depending
    on which setback is more important to you
    Measure the setback from fence establish
    this two point with pegs then put a rope
    to cross both pegs and make them from a
    right angle or 90 degrees. to determine
    if your rope are at right angle put a
    checker popularly called ‘square’ by
    bricklayers,this will direct you if you
    need a shift from the other rope they can
    varied since one is ready fixed to form a
    base mark (i.e the ropes running through
    two peg from the rear to the front either
    on left side or right side
    – After establishing a right angle do your
    measurements to correspond with what is
    on plan and then use the square at the
    other end to now establish the other two
    points.when establishing these points be
    conscious to the place your peg at
    1m or 3 1/2 ft behind after this, nails
    pegs at 3m interval round under the rope
    marking your building line,then nail tie
    rods(flat thin wood)on top round entire
    area. Establish each room measurements by
    nails(you require four nails at each then
    the other two side of block you are going
    to place later on,then the other two at
    both ends to serve as the point where you
    excavate the length of this usually three
    time the width of the block you are using
    that is if you are using a 9″ block then
    expect to excavate or dig a trench of
    27″ wide.
    – The digging or excavate depth depends on
    the type of foundation as recommended by
    your structural engineer
    – Next is casting of concrete bed/base
    – after casting of foundation,use the nails
    on your profile board to determine where
    your block will follow set blocks,3-4 or
    more coaches/course and partition in
    reference to site topography
    – filling and backfilling of the trenches
    and inside trenches
    – cast your ground floor slab or oversite
    concrete or German floor

    4. Because the first pega will be removed, so we to offset it to preserve a method to get back to the initial point.
    5. To avoid vegetation of different areas.
    6. 3-4-5 method was used to settout the building.
    7. When we find it difficult to have equal dimensions, we can use the 3-4-5 method to square out the building Conners, walls and foundation with the same equidistant.
    8. It was possible because he used the offset stake excavation.

    1. It shows how to stake for excavation easily. it also shows us how to stake a building using 3-4-5 method. it helps to show how to place the strings when staking on the building foundation.

    4. It is because when we are making a new stake of a new building foundation, you must give 3ft from an existing building to avoid being close.

    5. It helps in line for reference temperate points and keeping staking mine. It also helps anytime we are unable to get equal. It makes the staking of excavation easy.

    6. 3-4-5 method using 3 squared, 4 squared and 5 squared.

    7.it is ideal and mainly used for construction and used in any combination like 3×16 = 48, 4×16 = 64, 5×16 = 80

    8. it was possible because of the 3-4-5 method using 3 squared, 4 squared and 5 squared.

    9. Because it represent the corner of the building. the reason is that we have to preserve and mark it to get back to this point.
